Urologic diseases
The therapeutic area urology is with surgical focus and studies etiology, pathogenesis and symtomatics of diseases of the urogenital system in males, as well as urinary system in females. Urology accomplishes and develops methods for diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of these diseases. Urologists treat mostly with surgical treatment, but also resort to conservative treatment methods.

Diseases of the reproductive system in males
Alarming trend is observed towards higher frequency of reproductive disorders in males. Causes of their development are complex. Approximately, one-third up to one-second of cases in couples with reproductive disorders is due to infertility of the man. The problem is subject to successful treatment in some cases after establishing underlying causes and opportunities for their removal. Infertility in men is characterized with serious emotional problems. This diseases requires timely treatment on physical and psychological, as well as on emotional level.

Some of the more frequent causes of infertility in men are:
Urogenital diseases: These are frequently asymptomatic diseases of the urogenital tract in males (e.g. varicocele and phimosis). Less often are observed ongoing asymptomatic disorders in normal functional activity of testes, prostate, as well as of vas deferens;

Infections: Infections of epididymis (epididymitis) and testes (orchitis) can be cause of infertility in males. Additionally, infections, which are sexually transmitted (e.g. gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, HIV/AIDS) also can influence negatively quality and production of spermatozoids in males.

Alcohol abuse: Frequent intake of alcohol is associated with lower levels of testosterone, as well as with development of erectile dysfunction and lower production of semen.

Overweight: Obesity and overweight contribute to infertility in males. Overweight infuences negatively and indirectly hormonal balance and negatively and directly spermatocoids in males.

When there are difficulties in offspring for a period, which is longer than a year and regular attempts, consultation with specialist is necessary, as well as conduct of the necessary examinations for clarification of the specific condition and its pecularities in the specific patient.
Preventive measures
It is recommended to maintain optimal body weight for the specific age, as well as for the specific condition of the male, through sufficient physical activity, healthy eating and sufficient sleep.

Additionally, effective counteraction against stress and fatigue, control of underlying diseases and avoidance of risky behaviour also can prevent infertility in male. It is recommended to limit all known factors, which are with unfavourable influence on fertility in men (e.g. alcohol consumption, smoking, malnutrition, stress, fatigue, overweight, depression and others).

Treatment of infertility in males
Considering all factors, which inflience the specific patient, as well as individual approach towards the patient, are of essential importance for accomplishing good results in treating the infertile men. Complete treatment and recovery of fertilization abilities is possible in some males. In other, therapy is mostly symptomatic. Surgical treatment, antibiotic therapy and/or hormone replacement therapy and therapy with medicinal products can be undertaken as methods of
treatment, depending on pecularities of the condition of the concrete patient.

Support of the partner of the male, as well as of the closest people in such a moment is very important for positive results and for finding solution of the infertility problem.
